Presented in honor of Paramount Pictures' Centennial Celebration, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is pleased to offer an exhibition highlighting some of the iconic films and filmmakers from the studio's first 100 years. Culled from collections at the Academy's Margaret Herrick Library, the exhibition in the Academy's Grand Lobby Gallery will explore Paramount's early history with correspondence from Adolph Zukor, Jesse L. Lasky's handwritten budget for The Squaw Man (1914) and materials relating to Paramount's stars, including Mary Pickford, Gloria Swanson and Rudolph Valentino.
The exhibition will also include a gallery of posters featuring Paramount's 12 Best Picture winners, an original production design sketch by Hans Dreier for Wings (1927), story sketches for Cecil B. DeMille's The Ten Commandments (1956) and sketches for designs by Paramount's style maven and costume designer, Edith Head. Dozens of behind-the-scenes production stills from throughout the studio's history will offer insights into some of the screen's most acclaimed films, including Sunset Blvd.,The Godfather, Chinatown, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Reds and There Will Be Blood. Admission is free.
