In celebration of Beverly Hills' Chinese New Year Celebration, The Paley Center for Media will host a day of Chinese-themed screenings.

12:10: Stan Freberg Presents the Chun King Chow Mein Hour: Salute to Chinese New Year Under the banner of celebrating Chinese New Year's Eve for his sponsor, Chun King Chow Mein, Stan takes an irreverent and deliciously satirical look at television, politics and popular culture of the day in this hilarious, tuned-filled hour and that includes his sharp-witted commercials for Chun King. Joining Stan to keep his Chinese New Year shindig from "dragon" are Frank Sinatra, Sterling Holloway June Foray, Arte Johnson, Jesse White and prodigal child actress and pianist Ginny Tiu. 1:10: Yangniu Zai Beijing (Foreign Babes in Beijing) Part 1
The premiere of this popular dramatic series chronicling the love affairs of two American girls living in Beijing who become involved with the inhabitants of a traditional Chinese courtyard.  (1996; 50 minutes)

2:00: Chinese Leaders Visit the United States
This documentary consists of two programs that depict visits by Chinese leaders Deng Xiaoping and Jiang Zemin to the United States in 1979 and 1997. (1998; 80 minutes)

3:20: Zhongguo Yijue (Unique Things in China)
This series of short programs gives a brief introduction to unique professions, art forms, and art-historical sites in China.  All are narrated by different voices in Mandarin Chinese, with Chinese captioning when guests speak. (1999; 57 minutes)

4:20: Metroline: From Beijing to Bay Ridge: New York's Chinese Youth
This program, hosted by Mike Shuster, examines issues facing the growing Chinese immigrant population in New York City, and focuses on the special needs of immigrant teenagers.  Topics include the following:  Chinese stereotypes; the difficulties in adjusting to the language barrier and bicultural conflicts; truancy, drop-out rates, and interest in gangs due to feelings of alienation and racial problems; and the stress involved in working after school and helping parents who do not speak English.
