Enrico Macias is an Algerian French Pied noir singer and musician. He is popular throughout the world and has traveled extensively for fifty years. He has sung in many languages including Frech, Italian, Spanish, Hebrew, Turkish, Greek, English, Armenian, Arabic and many of its dialects, and recently in Yiddish, and also in Kabyle Berber with a famous Kabyle singer called Idir. In 1965 he was awarded the Prix Vincent Scotto. In 1976 he received a gold disc for “Melisa.” He was named Singer of Peace by UN Secretary-General Kurt Waldheim, and Kofi Annan named him Roving Ambassador for Peace and the Defense of Children.
