Jake Shimabukuro was born in Honolulu in 1976 and is a composer, ukulele player, and author. His musical style is best described as a blend of pop, rock, jazz, blues (a genre – developed by African Americans in the Deep South of the United States around the end of the 19th century – incorporating spirituals, work songs, field hollers, shouts, chants, and rhymed simple narrative ballads), funk, rock, bluegrass (a genre that takes roots from Irish, Scottish and English traditional music, and was also later influenced by the music of African Americans through incorporation of jazz elements), classical, folk, and flamenco.

He’s had a stellar career with 11 studio albums, 1 live album, 1 soundtrack album (for the 2007 Japanese film, Hula Girls), and 3 video albums. He’s received many accolades including 10 Na Hoku Hanohano Awards (6 for Instrumental Album of the Year and 4 for Favorite Entertainer of the Year). He’s performed on Late Night with Conan O'Brien, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, The Today Show, and he’s spoken at the 2010 TED conference. He’s the subject of an award winning documentary (Jake Shimabukuro: Life on Four Strings) and he's also written 2 books.
