My So-Called Life 25th Anniversary Screenings at The Paley

Believe it or not, My So-Called Life premiered twenty-five years ago this August, making it almost twice as old as Angela Chase was when we first met her. Sobering, right? Created by Winnie Holzman and starring Claire Danes (breakout role), Wilson Cruz, and Jared Leto, this critically revered ABC coming-of-age drama series was, according to Entertainment Weekly, “the first teen drama that didn’t feel like an after-school special. No one ever learned a very important lesson or uttered the phrase ‘I love you, Dad.’ Angela acted like a real 15-year-old, with all the crying jags and Buffalo Tom concerts that implies.”

Alas, My So-Called Life ran for just a single season—nineteen episodes, but glorious they were, and The Paley Center would never let this occasion slip by without commemoration.
