Nana Mouskouri (birth name Iōánna Moúschouri) was born in Chania (Crete, Greece) in 1934 and is a singer. Over the years, her musical style has spanned many genres such as jazz, pop, vocal pop (a genre that's considerably lighter than traditional pop and falls somewhere between pop and easy listening), easy listening (a popular music genre that encompasses instrumental recordings of standards, hit songs, and popular non-rock vocals), French pop, folk, Greek folk, and world music.

Her breakthrough came with the 1961 single The White Rose of Athens selling over 1 million copies. 2 years later, represented Luxembourg at the Eurovision Song Contest and in 1964, she recorded the theme song of the Oscar-nominated film The Umbrellas of Cherbourg. She went on to have a stellar career with over 200 albums and singles in many languages including Greek, French, English, German, Dutch, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Hebrew, Welsh, Mandarin Chinese, and Corsican. She's received many accolades including the 2015 Echo Music Prize (for Outstanding Achievements) by the German music association Deutsche Phono-Akademie. She's also been a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and a Greek deputy of the European Parliament.
