Beverly Hills Announces Inaugural Chinese New Year's Event Honoring "Year of the Dragon"

RELEASE DATE: Thursday, January 5, 2012

(January 5, 2012) - Beverly Hills, CA - Beverly Hills Conference & Visitors Bureau announces one of the largest, public Chinese New Year celebrations on the west side of Los Angeles to take place on Friday, January 20, 2012, from 6-9pm, in Beverly Hills.

To kick off the "Year of the Dragon," Beverly Hills will transform Rodeo Drive with custom appointments including floral embellishments representing good fortune and cultural décor expressing power, wisdom and all the qualities of this enchanting Chinese symbol.  Engaging entertainment will start the evening followed by shopping and dining with specials and offers from 45 retailers and restaurants.

"We are thrilled to bring to life traditional Chinese entertainment and customs, from the magical lion dancing to the soulful thumping of the drum corps," said Beverly Hills Mayor, Barry Brucker.   "The City of Beverly Hills is proud to present this unprecedented event celebrating this important Chinese holiday.  We invite visitors, residents and locals throughout the Los Angeles area to join in on the festivities commemorating this colorful, family-centric tradition."

Prior to the public event beginning at 6pm, a private, VIP reception at Lladró on Rodeo Drive will take place where Beverly Hills dignitaries will greet members of the local Chinese business and tourism communities, officially welcoming these esteemed guests to the city.  Adding further excitement to the notable event, Lladró, the world renowned creator of fine porcelain, will unveil two different versions of a new limited edition piece, Auspicious Dragon. This sculpture transmits all the power, dignity and nobility of this mythological creature.

Beginning at 6pm, Rodeo Drive will come alive with traditional Chinese performances, including a lion dance and drum corps by the award-winning EAST WIND Dance Troupe out of Los Angeles' Chinatown.  In the spirit of the holiday, the first 1,000 attendees will receive a red Good Fortune envelope each filled with special offers from participating retailers and restaurants.  Exclusive gifts from Beverly Hills will be revealed in the envelopes of several lucky winners, with prizes valued at more than $200 a piece.

Boutiques throughout the Golden Triangle are welcoming customers with in-store refreshments, free gifts with purchase and extended shopping hours until 9pm.  Meanwhile, visitors can feast on restaurant deals, many featuring a nod to Asian cuisine, including a special Dim Sum menu at The Blvd at Beverly Wilshire, A Four Seasons Hotel; a complementary sample of green tea at Café Rodeo at Luxe Hotel Rodeo Drive; and Xi'an is hosting a Chinese New Year event complete with a Chinese musician and complimentary rice cake.  For a complete listing of participating merchants, visit
