Beverly Hills to Join the Nation's Top Cities and Destinations in Celebrating the Travel and Tourism Industry

Beverly Hills Conference & Visitors Bureau Honors Local Businesses with Special Event in Beverly Hills Visitor Center on May 5 For National Travel & Tourism Week

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. – May 1, 2015 – Beverly Hills Conference & Visitors Bureau (BHCVB) today announced it will hold a special event in its Visitor Center to celebrate and honor local Beverly Hills businesses and travel and tourism professionals on Tuesday, May 5 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Beverly Hills tourism, retail and hospitality partners attending the celebration will enjoy treats, beverages, music and other surprises, with the first 100 attendees promised to receive a free Beverly Hills branded t-shirt or baseball cap and an official Beverly Hills lapel pin. All professionals who come will have the chance to enter a drawing to win one of several prizes.

The event is timed with the nationwide “Travel Rally” effort on May 5, which is part of the 32nd annual National Travel and Tourism Week, initiated by the U.S. Travel Association. The annual celebration encourages communities across America to shine a light on what travel means to American jobs, economic growth and personal well-being. The annual tradition runs nationwide from May 2-10, 2015.

Beverly Hills employs a vibrant tourism workforce, from hotel and restaurant employees to medical, spa and retail workers, all of which significantly contribute to the city’s economic and social vitality. According to a recent Visitor Profile and Economic Impact Study*, tourism is responsible for:

  • - Generating more than $2.1 billion in direct and indirect revenue in the city
  • - Producing $46 million generated in tax revenue to the city
  • - Supporting nearly 11,500 Beverly Hills jobs
  • - Providing $3,100 in city services for each Beverly Hills resident household

The national figures for 2014 are equally remarkable:

  • - $927.9 billion in direct travel-related spending in the U.S. by domestic and international travelers
  • - $141.5 billion generated in federal, state and local tax revenues
  • - 15 million American jobs supported

Travel can also have a positive effect on personal well-being. A recent study by the U.S. Travel Association found that Americans left 429 million vacation days unused (the most in nearly 40 years) and forfeited $52.4 billion in time-off benefits. If workers took just one more day off each year, travel would generate $73 billion annually for the economy.

“Travel contributes to the fabric of America and continues to do wonders for our businesses and personal lives,” said Roger Dow, president and CEO of the U.S. Travel Association, the umbrella organization representing the travel industry in the U.S. “This weeklong celebration should extend to every day of the week to strengthen further our dynamic industry.”
