The "Peace and Love" sculpture in Beverly Hills is an 800-pound, 8-foot-tall polished stainless steel monument designed by Beatles drummer and Beverly Hills resident, Ringo Starr. Located in Beverly Gardens Park at Santa Monica Boulevard and Cañon Drive, it depicts a hand making a peace sign, symbolizing Starr's message of peace and love.
Mr. Starr had a casting made of his hand flashing the peace sign, fashioned to stand the approximate height of a human being. Starr’s concept invests more in the powerful symbolism of the hand formation – and hand itself – and less in the physical object. In this respect, it could be called an existential message to the future.
Around July 7th in recent years, Ringo Starr has celebrated his birthday with an invitation-only event at the sculpture.
