Rodeo Drive Walk of Style
While Rodeo Drive is famous for its renowned fashion houses and one-of-a-kind boutiques, one of its rare and exclusive attractions is the Rodeo Drive Walk of Style. Introduced in 2003, the Rodeo Drive Walk of Style honors legends in the worlds of fashion and entertainment, with past recipients such as Giorgio Armani, Tom Ford, Gianni & Donatella Versace, Manolo Blahnik and others. Similar to the Walk of Fame in Hollywood, recipients of the Rodeo Drive Walk of Style are presented with a bronzed plaque that features a personal quote and their signature, which is then embedded into the sidewalks along the street. Giorgio Armani is the first recipient of the Rodeo Drive Walk of Style Award
On September 9, 2003, Giorgio Armani was honored as the inaugural recipient of the Rodeo Drive Walk of Style Award at a star-studded evening on Rodeo Drive. The spectacular evening featured a fashion show and performance by OutKast, as well as a who’s who of high profile attendees, including Sofia Loren, Jodie Foster, Michelle Pfeiffer, Steve Martin, Debra Messing and Mira Sorvino. Giorgio Armani’s personal plaque quote: “Fashion and cinema together for life.”
Tom Ford accepts Rodeo Drive Walk of Style award from Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson
Tom Ford was honored with the Rodeo Drive Walk of Style Award on March 14, 2004 in front of more than 800 guests. Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson presented Ford with the honor for his extraordinary work as the then Creative Director of Gucci. The evening culminated with a special performance by Gloria Gaynor. Tom Ford’s personal plaque quote: “Beauty is a powerful thing. It can add enormously to the quality of life.”
Larger-than-Life Photography from Herb Ritts & Mario Testino is Projected Along Rodeo Drive
Famed fashion photographers, the late Herb Ritts and Mario Testino, receive the Rodeo Drive Walk of Style Award on March 20, 2005. Anjelica Huston hosted, while Cameron Diaz, Patrick Swayze, VOGUE Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour and Malcolm Rogers, Director of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts presented the honors to Ritts and Testino. To further pay homage the recipients, colossal projections of each photographer’s portfolio served as the backdrop along Rodeo Drive. Ritts and Testino’s personal plaque quote: “Chic is nothing but it is the right nothing.” Herb Ritts' personal plaque quote: “Capturing the surprising moment is the true magic of the medium.” Mario Testino’s personal plaque quote: “Chic is nothing but it is the right nothing. Elton John and Guns n’ Roses Perform in Honor of Gianni Versace & Donatella Versace
Gianni Versace (posthumous) and his sister Donatella Versace, were honored with the Rodeo Drive Walk of Style on February 8, 2007. Historic Beverly Hills City Hall sets the stage for the elegant supper club evening hosted by Rupert Everett and Sharon Stone. The event featured the live auction of the new Versace Lamborghini Murciélago LP640 Roadster benefiting the Elton John AIDS Foundation, with finale performances by Elton John and Guns n’ Roses. Donatella Versace’s personal plaque quote: “Envisioning yourself dynamically evolving is the essence of enduring style.” Gianni Versace’s personal plaque quote: “Contrasts & contradictions are the way to perfection.”
Princess Grace of Monaco and Cartier are the First Celebrity Icon and Jeweler to Receive Rodeo Drive Walk of Style Awards
Princess Grace (Kelly) of Monaco (posthumous) and the renowned French jeweler Cartier were the first “celebrity icon” and “jeweler,” respectively, to receive Rodeo Drive Walk of Style Awards on October 22, 2009, at an evening award ceremony. Debra Messing presented the award to His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco, who accepted on behalf of the Princely family, and Demi Moore presented the Award to Pierre Rainero, Image, Style & Heritage Director of Cartier International. The event also raised over $150,000 for the Princess Grace Foundation-USA and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation. The Father of Rodeo Drive, Fred Hayman, Humbly Accepts Coveted Style Award
On May 31, 2011, Fred Hayman, world-renowned former boutique owner and Rodeo Drive retail genius, was inducted into the Rodeo Drive Walk of Style in a daytime ceremony along the famed street. Commonly known as "the father of Rodeo Drive" and the owner of the chic shop Giorgio of Beverly Hills, Hayman transformed Rodeo Drive with his signature fragrance and yellow and white striped awnings. Fred Hayman plaque quote: “Clothes don’t make a star. But they sure do help.”
Mayor of Beverly Hills Declares December 5: “Bulgari Day,” in Honor of the Italian Jeweler
Bulgari, the renowned LVMH-owned Italian jeweler, was inducted into the Rodeo Drive Walk of Style on December 5, 2012. Drew Barrymore presented the honor to Vice Chairman and third generation family member, Nicola Bulgari, while Beverly Hills Mayor, William Brien, read an official proclamation declaring December 5, 2012, "Bulgari Day." Nicola Bulgari’s personal plaque quote: "Style is an everlasting impression and jewelry is a passion that is passed through generations."
Catherine Martin Accepts Rodeo Drive Walk of Style in True “Gatsby” Fashion
Legendary costume and production designer Catherine Martin was inducted into the Rodeo Drive Walk of Style on February 28, 2014 at the historic Greystone Mansion. Cate Blanchett presented Martin with the honor, followed by a special toast from Tobey Maguire, who starred in “The Great Gatsby,” the movie which earned Martin two 2014 Academy Award® nominations for Best Costume Design and Production Design. Of the 21 recipients to date, Martin is the first Australian to receive the prestigious prize. Catherine Martin’s personal plaque quote: “Film has allowed me to follow my dreams down fashion’s yellow brick road all the way to Rodeo Drive.”
