Passion of the Masters at Gallerie Michael

The Bible is the source of much of the most cherished imagery in art history as well as the fundamental religious charter of Judaism and Christianity.  Each of the artists chosen for this exhibition was a master of the graphic medium.  Over the course of four centuries  they endeavored to manifest the Biblical words that guided so much of European civilization through their artistic interpretations.  

From Durer's insightful woodcuts at the very cusp of the humanist Renaissance and Rembrandt's sensitive devotional imagery at the crossroads of Judaism and Christianity in 17th century Amsterdam, to Chagall's intensely personal interpretations of the Biblical and his Jewish culture, and Dali's modernist renditions of classic Spanish Catholic themes, they share with us their insightful illustrations that add so much to this canon.
