Picasso is known for his creative genius in the world of art and by looking into his long lasting career one can see how his work evolved from one to the next. Much of his discovery and genius can be attributed to the women that were close to him.
“…As a rule, when a wife or mistress changed, everything else changed.” - Dora Maar, 1980
Peering into the oeuvre of Picasso one can see a constant reinvention of ideas. Just as he seemed to master one style of art, Picasso’s focus shifted and a new style was born. His treatment of the female portrait is particularly significant as it signals a progression in artistic approach with every new muse depicted in the work. Picasso’s intimate relationships evolved over the years and with new intimacy came new inspiration. Picasso’s Women at Galerie Michael explores the role Picasso’s wives, lovers, and mistresses played in the works he created as time and subject matter changed.
